Homeowner Assistance

Rebuilding Together Charles County helps eligible homeowners with essential repairs and home modifications that can improve safety, accessibility, comfort, and independence.

Who May Qualify?

Applicants generally must own and live in the Charles County home for which assistance is requested. The program serves homeowners with limited incomes and places special emphasis on older adults and people with disabilities. Veterans and other households facing serious financial hardship may also be considered according to current program guidelines and available resources.

Eligibility and project selection may depend on:

  • Homeownership and full-time occupancy
  • Household income and required documentation
  • The age or disability status of household members
  • The type and urgency of the requested repairs
  • The condition and structural safety of the home
  • Available funding, materials, and qualified volunteers
  • Permission for the organization to inspect and evaluate the property

Submitting an application does not guarantee selection or guarantee that every requested repair can be completed.

Types of Repairs We May Consider

Services vary by project and available resources. Repairs and modifications may include:

  • Wheelchair ramps, grab bars, handrails, and accessibility improvements
  • Steps, porches, floors, doors, and window repairs
  • Minor plumbing, electrical, and carpentry work
  • Roof and weatherization repairs
  • Interior or exterior painting
  • Heating-related repairs when appropriate
  • Yardwork, cleanup, and trash removal
  • Other repairs that address health and safety concerns

Repairs We May Be Unable to Complete

Rebuilding Together Charles County relies heavily on volunteers, donated materials, grants, and community support. The organization may be unable to accept projects involving unsafe working conditions, major structural failure, extensive reconstruction, or work that exceeds available funding, permits, time, or volunteer expertise.

What You May Need to Provide

Applicants may be asked to provide copies of documents such as:

How the Application Process Works

  3. Complete the application and gather the requested documentation.
  4. Submit the application using the instructions on the current form.
  5. If the application moves forward, a representative may contact you to discuss the request and schedule a home assessment.
  6. The organization will determine whether the project fits its guidelines, resources, and volunteer capacity.
